About the year 1900, a gentleman by the name of Thomas Jefferson Wyant journeyed to Garden City South Dakota. Thomas migrated to the Garden City area to be with relatives. His wife Sarah, of 17 years  died in 1891. Sarah died on May 23 1891, She was 34 years old. Pearly the youngest child was just a little over one year old.

 Thomas was a skilled carpenter, and did  carpenter work, but he also did farm work and other odd jobs "he was a handy man". One of his most famous, and less known accomplishments, was making Violins. According to Margurite  Strenge, (T.J.'s Granddaughter) if you have one of these violins you might be a wealthy person.    Zora Thomas's Daughter and Her husband Noah Whitehurst (and there eleven children) bought a farm  3 miles east of  Garden City. Occasionally Thomas Stayed at the Whitehurst's, but  because of there large family he made his home with John Wyant a Cousin, who lived at Bradley. John lived and worked in Bradley. Shortly after Thomas died in 1923,at the age of  68, John and his family moved to Austin Minnesota. Thomas Jefferson Wyant is buried in the Garden City Cemetery, along with a Grandson Ivan Whitehurst who died in 1921 he was 3 years old, and  the 6th  child of Noah and ZoraWhitehurst.

 Jefferson Wyant, was born in OH May 22, 1855.and died January 3, 1923.  T.J. married Sarah Eliza Watts, on  Sept. 9, 1874. This marriage took place in Vermillion county, Illinois.  Thomas Jefferson, and Sarah Eliza Watts's family consisted of   6 Children, they were, John Elmer, Curtis, Lydya, Zora A., Dora, and Pearly Wyant. Curtis died when he was 8 years old, and is buried in Illinos, and Pearly was adopted by another family  (unknown name) after his mother died May 23, 1891. Sarah (the mother) was 34 years old when she died, and Pearly the youngest child was just one year old. When Pearly was 21 years old he petitioned to have his name changed back to Wyant. Pearl Edward Wyant was born April 30, 1890 in Vermillion co., Illinois, and died April 29, 1936 in Colorado Springs, El Paso, Colorado in a mining accident and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery there.. He married Rose M. French, She was born 1896, and died November 10, 1924 in Colorado Springs, El Paso county, Colorado and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery there. Pearly then  married   Anna  (unknown name) John Elmer Wyant the oldest child of T.J. and Sarah , also stayed in South Dakota all his life. John lived in the Henry area. John  had a business in Henry, and Farmed.  John died at Worthing SD, on Sept. 29, 1967, and  is buried in St. Edwards Cemetery, Worthing,Lincoln, SD. John married Gertrude (Trudy) Kaffer,  on August 26, 1914, at Worthing SD. Trudy died, November 10, 1967, at  Worthing South Dakota and is buried in St.Edwards Cemetery.

Thomas Jefferson Wyant moved to South Dakota about 1900 after the Death of his wife Sarah. Zora, T.J.'s 5th child,  married Noah Whitehurst, and they had moved to South Dakota.  Noah Whitehurst and Zora, The Whitehursts  had 11 children. The 6th child was Ivan Whitehurst. Ivan was born in 1918, and died in 1921, and is buried in the Garden City Cemetery in the same lot as his grandfather Thomas Jefferson Wyant.

John Elmer Wyant the oldest child of T.J. and Sarah , also stayed in South Dakota all his life.John lived in the Henry area, he had a business in Henry, and Farmed.  John died at Worthing SD, on Sept. 29, 1967, and  is buried in St. Edwards Cemetery, Worthing,Lincoln SD.
John married Gertrude (Trudy) Kaffer  on August 26, 1914, at Worthing SD. Trudy died, November 10, 1967, at Worthing South Dakota and is buried there.  September 29,1967 Canton, Lincoln, SD

Thomas Jefferson Wyant and Ivan Whitehurst a grandsonThomas Jefferson Wyant was born 22 MAY 1855 in OH, and died 3 JAN1923 in S.D. and is buried in Garden City Cemetery,Garden City,South Dakota.   He was the son of John W. Wyant and Eliza Jane Gantz He married Sarah (Sadie) E. Watts, Sept. 9, 1874 in Vermillion county, Illinois, daughter of John Watts and Frances Jane Clampet. Sarah was born 9 SEP 1857 in Jefferson Co. IL, and died 23 MAY 1891 in and is buried in Collison, Vermillion, Illinois. T.J. and Sara were  married Sept. 9, 1874, in Vermillion county,Illinois  and they were blessed with  6 children. John Elmer Wyant, Curtis Wyant, Lydia Wyant, Dora Belle Wyant, Zora A . Wyant,  and Pearly Wyant When Sarah died on May 23 1891, Pearly was just a little over a year old. T.J. moved to South Dakota in about the mid 1890"s  T.J. was a carpenter by trade, and as a hobby he made Violins.After Sarah died T.J. was having a problem taking care of the children so he adopted pearly out.  Noah and Zora had purchased a farm  3 miles east of Garden City. T.J. Migrated to the Garden City Area and at times stayed with Noah, and Zora, but He stayed with John Wyant a cousin. John lived in Bradley. After T.J. died John moved to the area around Austin Minnesota.Zora married Noah Whitehurst, they had 11, children Ivan is the 6 child, Ivan is buried in the same lot as T,J.Wyant, Thomas Jefferson   Born, May 22,1855 D.-January 3,1923  and is buried in Garden City Cemetery,Garden City,Clark,South.

John Jeffrey Wyant (parents John W. Wyant and Eliza Jane Gantz) was born December 5. 1844 in Carrollton, Carroll,Ohio. He died July 22, 1919 in Daily (nr Newcastle), Nebraska and is buried in Newcastle Cemetery..
 
  John enlisted in the Army at the age of 17 and served 3 years and 8 months in the Civil War as a Private in the 66th Ohio Infantry.

He was in the Battle at Lookout Mountain.		  
 John Jeffrey married Nancy Anna Potter on May 8, 1873 in Potomac, Vermillion, Illinois. Nancy Anna (parents Rigdon Potter and Margaret B. Humphreys) was born November 25, 1851 in Danville, Vermillion, Illinois. She died September 17, 1933 in Laurel, Cedar, Nebraska and is buried in Newcastle Cemetery, Newcastle, Nebraska.

  5. Benjamin Butler Wyant was born November 26, 1885 in Huron, Beadle, South Dakota. He died 1965 in Sioux City, Woodbury, Iowa.  
  6. Millard (Mike) Herbert Wyant was born April 13, 1889 in Beadle county, South Dakota. He died June 6, 1969 in Maskell, Dixon, Nebraska.  
  7. Edna May Wyant was born June 9, 1891 in Nebraska. She died September 1981 in Nebraska.  
  8. Russell Willard Wyant was born March 7, 1893 in Beadle county, South Dakota. He died January 30, 1977 in Larchwood, Lyon, Iowa.  
  9. Jamie Wyant was born August 19, 1870.  

 
    viii. Sarah Jane WYANT was born 1853 in OH. She married George W. WATSON 6 OCT 1878 in Potomac, Vermilion Co., IL, son of James WATSON and Dorcus Ann MORELAND. He was born 1856.
    ix. Martin Vanburen WYANT was born 10 SEP 1854 in Carrollton, Carroll Co., OH, and died 5 OCT 1930 in Lorenzo, Jefferson Co., ID. He married Sarah Elizabeth LISTER 19 APR 1884 in Fountain Co., IN, daughter of Joseph LISTER and Almira HOBSON. She was born 1 FEB 1862 in Johnsonville, Warren Co., IN, and died 10 SEP 1894 in Rigby, Jefferson Co., IA.
Martin Vanburen Wyant (parents John W. Wyant and Eliza Jane Gantz) was born September 10, 1854 in Carrollton, Carroll, Ohio. He died October 5,1930 in Lorenzo, Jefferson, Idaho and is buried in Shelton,Jefferson,Idaho.
 
 Martin Vanburen married Sarah Elizabeth Lister on April 19, 1884 in Fountain county, Indiana. Sarah Elizabeth was born February 1, 1862 in Johnsonville, Warren, Indiana.
