My grandmother Gertrude Mae Simpson was born in Frankfort, Dakota Territory September 23, 1883 to William Franklin Simpson and Claressa Alice West. There may be a variance between 1883-1885 for the birth date. Other offspring of William Franklin Simpson and Claressa Alice West are: Elizabeth Simpson (reportedly lived in Canada but it is not known whether it was permanent or not) and George Simpson; Claressa Alice (West) Simpson died in 1888 in Dakota Territory. William Franklin Simpson remarried (wife unknown) and had a child Bessie Simpson who married a man by the name of Ob Six; and had a son named Joseph Simpson. William Franklin Simpson moved his family to Michigan and he died in Kalkaska, Michigan. I have very little information other than what I have on my grandmother. If anyone can fill in the details with respect to the family in the Spink County area, or if anyone knows the location of Claressa Alice (West) Simpsons grave I would appreciate hearing about it. I am willing to share any information I have about any of the family mentioned.

I am looking for any information on a man named Mark Lott. I believe that he lived or was born in Redfield. He was I believe basically a homeless man that came to my hometown of Appleton,MN and usually spent summers there, doing knife sharpening and perhaps odd jobs. My great grand parents got to know him and he basically became fairly close to them.
The info that he gave to them was sparse, and when he died in 196?, they did try to locate family and did come up with a wife and children, but they wanted nothing to do with it. I seem to remember that he had something to do with the newspaper there in Redfield. I believe that his birth year was around 1888.
The reason my mother and I are looking into this, is that my mother wants to buy him a nice headstone. I don't know what kind of man he was before he came to know us, but everyone here that came in contact with him became quite fond of him. I was quite small when he died, perhaps 5 or 6, but I do have very nice memories of him and would like to give him the honor of a nice headstone, and to learn what we can of him.....so that someone can remember he and his history. Thank you for any help you

I'm researching a distant relative (2nd cousin 3X removed), Francis (Frank) Asbury Waller (or Wallar), who was born in Ohio abt. 1840, moved with his parents to Wisconsin abt. 1853, served in the 6th Wisconsin (Iron Brigade), won the Congressional Medal of Honor at Gettysburg 1 July 1863. After the war he married Mary Hall. Moved to South Dakota abt. 1882. Children were James, William, Lloyd, Frank Eugene, Harry B. and Elva Mae. The last two were born SD, all others Vernon Co., WI. He died at Brentford, Spink Co. SD, 30 April 1911. I'm planning to write an article about Frank for an Ohio genealogical newsletter, and I'd appreciate very much learning anything I can about his SD years. An obituary would be wonderful, as would anything regarding any recognition he received for his heroism. By the way, there's a wonderful painting depicting Frank in the act of winning his medal. Check it out at http://www.arthes.com/gdg/troig01.html

In the process of following my family genealogy I've found that my great grandfather a William Nelson Martin from Iowa had moved his family to Spink County between 1882 and 1883. It appears that the family traveled through many states before setting down in Nebraska. From a family journal it states that 3 of his 13 children were born in Spink County. They are Anna Bell Martin born 4/24/1883, Charles Albert Martin born 10/27/1884, and Frank E. Martin born 9/10/1886. The town of Frankfort was sated for Frank's place of birth. But by the 11th child was born (Estella Mae Martin born 9/5/1893) they had moved to Riverton, Nebraska. I've got names and some places but I'm looking to fill in the gaps, occupations, serve and the likes. If you have any information about my family I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you for your time.

What I have found out: Mildred (Mabel) WELLS is Marie McGinley's mother. She married John MCGINLEY approximately 1900 - 1902. Mildred died in childbirth approximately 1904-05. I know that they lived in Turton, SD (Spink County) when Mildred died, along with their infant son, Joseph MCGINLEY. After Mildred's death, John brought little Marie back to Rosemount, Minnesota to be raised by his parents, Daniel & Sarah McGinley, who lived with their son Edward in Rosemount, MN. I am looking for the WELLS family in Turton, in approximately 1850 to 1900. Or possibly, John & Mildred (Mabel) MCGINLEY, since they could have hit the 1900 census. I also know that when John MCGINLEY died, my grandmother Marie BROST (McGinley) inherited the farm, which would have been approximately 1932-34. Any help would be appreciated.

GALLEGLY, Lou and his wife Anna BILLEB GALLEGLY. This couple lived in the Redfield area in the early 30's. I am unsure if they had any children themselves, but do know that they took in their niece, Evelyn JACOBSON when Evelyn's mother died in Feb 1930. (Mother's name was Lydia BILLEB JACOBSON. Lydia was Anna's sister.) Any information about the GALLEGLY family would be appreciated. Where did they go next? The family would have had ties to Chicago and Milwaukee.
