I am looking for any information regarding the family of Charles F. BACKER (BECKER). Charles was born Oct 1846 Prussia; died unknown. His wife was Amelia (Unknown) BACKER, b. Oct 1847 Prussia. Their children who resided with them on the 1900 census of Tulare Twp, Spink Co, SD, were Ida BACKER, b. Jan 1870 MN; Henry W. BACKER, b. Oct 1873 MN; and Helen BACKER, b. Nov 1875 MN. As the family story goes, Charles BECKER was in the Civil War (have not found anything to substantiate this) and his name was written as BACKER in his records. Upon discharge he was advised to retain the BACKER surname for record purposes. The only other information I have on him is that he applied for 160 acres of homestead land in Spink Co, SD, on 17 Sep 1890.

I am trying to obtain any info, family or professional, about Charles Louis (Deacon) Phillippi, who pitched for the Pittsburgh Pirates, and the first game of the very first world series in 1903. He was a son of Andrew Jackson Phillippi, who left Wythe County, VA about 1875, and settled near Athol, SD. Deacon holds records even today, yet, there is very little info about him anywhere. Even lots of the family back here in VA never heard of him. Deacon was one of 8 kids - surely someone in that family tree still lives.

I've found a little more information about the Grahams and I'm hoping that it might help in the search. I found a family relative who remembers that Rob & Ida Mae Graham did indeed live in Doland for a long period of time besides 1923 like I knew before and I didn't know who Ida had married. Ida died prior to 1956. I did notice on the Land Grant listing that there was a Robert Graham who was listed as having three sections of properties. Meridian 5, twp 114N, Range 063W, Section 18 with acreages of 80,40.63 and 40.63 dated 07/11/1889. However I don't really know that this is one and the same. Any help would be greatly appreciated...

I am looking for the death dates and cemetery where buried of Ada and Lawrence.
Is there a way to find out information on cemeteries around Northville SD. I see from the history that it is a very small town, so the cemeteries probably wouldn't be very large.

Looking for any information on Sylvester Fagan and Mary Fagan. They lived on a farm with a Northville address. They arrived from Iowa in about 1905. They had eight children that lived. Mary died in 1925 shortly after giving birth to her ninth child. Mary's body was taken to Iowa for burial, but we have no record of the baby's burial. We are assuming the baby survived a week or so and was buried locally. I believe Sylvester left the area shortly after the death of his wife.

|Susan Lloyd - Sat, 5 Aug 2000|
My name is Susan Lloyd, I live in Texas and am trying to do some research in Spink County. My grandmother (Pearl Ebinger) was born in Redfield in 1910. All that I know about her early years is that she seems to have spent them at the old State School under the care of Dr. John Kutnewsky, the Director, and his daughter, Edna. She was adopted by a couple by the name of Stebbins who passed away while she was young and then by a couple by the name of Ebinger. I was wondering if anyone knows whether or not any records from the School from this time period are still in existence as they would shed a great deal of light on whom her parents were. Any information you might have in this regard would so very much be appreciated.
|Janith Farnham - Fri, 4 Aug 2000|
I am conducting research on the Farnham family many of whom lived in Spink County. The following names are ones I have some information on and need to confirm and expand that information:
George Washington Farnham - died October 1934

Hattie Leona Farnham - died May 30, 1907
Frances Cassette Farnham married January 1, 1909
Harry Leonard Farnham, Sr. married January 1, 1909
Can you give leads on how to confirm this information?
Charles Weldon Farnham was an early pioneer of Rondell township and was buried in the Rondell Cemetery. I am looking for an obituary that would give me leads on the names of siblings. Ralph Cowles came to homestead in Mellette in 1879. His daughter married Charles Weldon Farnham. The wedding of Charles and Ida was written about in Prairie Echoes. I am also trying to find anything I can on Frances Cassett who married Harry Leonard Farnham January 1, 1909. He was the son of Charles Weldon Farnham.
Does the Rondell Cemetery still exist and are there burial records available?
